How to Support Vein Health with Proper NutritionWhile it’s not possible to reverse damage already done to the circulatory system in so far as vein disease and varicose veins go, eating well and supporting your body with good solid nutrition can help preventatively as well as to stave off further damage in the future.

Let’s look at some of the foods that support vein health

These foods are often recommended to incorporate into the diet for patients with capillary fragility, varicose veins, bruising, or hemorrhoids. Adding these foods into your diet can help your body’s veins stay strong.

  • Celery
  • Buckwheat
  • Cantaloupe
  • Strawberries
  • Soups and broths
  • Zucchini
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Fiber
  • Avocados
  • Rosemary
  • Vitamin C
  • Tomatoes
  • Citrus Fruits
  • Pomegranate
  • Garlic
  • Cinnamon
  • Ginger
  • Citrus Fruits
  • Cherries
  • Plums
  • Apples
  • Fish
  • Bananas
  • Leafy Greens
  • Asparagus

These foods have high water content and plenty of minerals and micronutrients. Eating nutrient-rich foods will give your body the power it needs to protect and strengthen the arteries, veins, and heart from damage that lead to varicose veins.

What to avoid – Things that can have damaging effects on vein health.

Just like eating the right foods can boost vein health, eliminating the wrong foods from your diet also has a positive impact. Avoid foods containing high amounts of salt. These are high up on the list of foods to avoid due to the negative effects of excessive sodium.  Salt causes the body to retain water and that increases pressure in the veins. Foods to avoid include:

  • Fast food
  • Frozen meals
  • Restaurant food
  • Pizza
  • Canned food
  • Processed meat
  • Other processed foods

If you’re concerned about your vein health, it’s important to check labels, and look at nutritional information when eating out. Drinking more water also helps to flush fluid from the body.
