When something starts to feel off in our bodies it can often be hard to pinpoint the exact issue. Because of that, we wanted to put together a checklist of symptoms you may experience if your veins begin to show signs of a venous deficiency.
Venous insufficiency is also known as Vein Disease. This occurs when veins in the legs (surface or deep veins) become weak or suffer trauma. When the vein walls lose strength and rigidity they can begin to bulge, pool blood, and break down altogether. It is this breakdown that causes veins to become visible presenting as tiny broken capillaries that interconnect via a web-like structure – these are known as Spider Veins. When larger deeper veins are affected, they can become gnarled and twisted. The blood’s inability to flow properly shows up as unsightly red, purple, and bluish veins that are sometimes raised above the skin’s surface.
Symptoms of Vein Disease – How Many Are Applicable to Your Health?
- Achy Legs
- Burning Legs
- Throbbing sensations
- Muscle cramps
- Swelling and Edema
- Skin color changes (in patches or your feet/legs may turn purple or bluish)
- Visible spider veins
- Visible varicose veins
- Worsened pain after sitting or standing
- Itching
- Ulcerations that won’t heal
While vein issues, by many, might be considered a cosmetic issue there is much more going on below the surface. Even if you experience no pain or discomfort treatment for vein issues is often covered under insurance.
While vein issues are more prevalent as we age, vein disease is not “just a normal part of aging”. We encourage you to visit a Vein Specialist in your area if you are experiencing any of these symptoms and especially so if you can check off multiple.
